Bringing It All Together
Through the use of the cause and effect diagram, Paul discovered why he was not able to produce results. The directive to develop a website had remained just an objective without any progress to show for the five meetings that had taken place. Once he learned this new tool, he learned how to manage the process of having a successful meeting.
It’s easy to forget that besides a goal we’re trying to achieve, there is also a process by which that goal is achieved. The cause and effect diagram helped Paul to clearly identify what was going wrong with the process; in this case, meetings. He identified the effect “problem” and it’s causes, which allowed him to develop a plan of action.
